Introducing Tong Guanyin Temple

Located at the southern foot of Guishan Mountain in Guangfu Town ( Guangfu Temple ) , the Bronze Guanyin Temple was built in 503 AD during the Liang Dynasty and is the oldest temple in Wu. Because of the bronze statue of Guanyin originally enshrined within the temple, it is also known as the Bronze Guanyin Temple.

Currently, the remaining buildings include the main hall, the Western Hall, the Temple Bridge, and the Guangfu Pagoda. The Temple Bridge, built across the river in front of the temple, is very ancient. Its sides are made of Wukang stone, carved with patterns of twin dragons playing with a pearl and the swastika symbol, and are exquisitely crafted, dating back to the Song Dynasty.

Crossing the temple bridge and entering the mountain gate, one arrives at the main hall, a single-eaved, gabled structure with a front porch. Inside, the hall is open-plan, without brackets, and the eaves purlins rest directly on the columns. In front of the hall stands a lush camphor tree, its branches and leaves lush, its crown verdant.
