Introducing Tiger Hill Sword Pond

Huqiu Jianchi, located in the Tiger Hill Scenic Area in Suzhou, is a narrow, sword-like pool nestled beneath the cliffs of Tiger Hill. According to local chronicles, the Jianchi is the burial place of King Helü of Wu. The Jianchi is approximately 45 meters wide and 6 meters deep . It never dries up, its water crystal clear and drinkable. During the Tang Dynasty, Li Xiuqing once described it as the " third best spring in the world . "

Looking north from the Thousand People Stone, one can see the four bold, powerful characters "Tiger Hill Sword Pond" carved beside the circular entrance to the cavernous cavern, "A Different Cavern." These characters were originally written by Yan Yu, the only son of Yan Zhenqing, a renowned Tang Dynasty calligrapher. Inside the cavern, another inscription, "Wind, Height, Cloud, and Spring," is carved in elegant brushwork and is said to have been written by Mi Fu, one of the four great calligraphers of the Song Dynasty.

The shadow of a stone bridge was reflected in the water. Looking up, the arched bridge seemed suspended high in the air, creating a precarious and treacherous scene. Moss grew on the rock face, and vines and wildflowers dangled upside down like ribbons. Gazing up at the towering cliffs, one felt as if one was standing on the edge of an abyss.
