Located on Wansong Ridge in the Shugang National Scenic Area in northern Yangzhou, the cemetery covers 80 mu (approximately 1,000 acres). It was expanded in 1997 and renovated in 2005.
The Martyrs' Cemetery features memorial structures such as an entrance archway, a memorial plaza, a stele containing martyrs' poems, a martyrs' monument, a martyrs' cemetery, and a martyrs' deeds exhibition hall. The entrance archway is simple and elegant, inscribed with the eight gleaming golden characters "Yangzhou Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery" in the handwriting of Comrade Jiang Zemin. Six stele walls flank the gathering plaza, each inscribed with poems by renowned martyrs from across China. The memorial plaza covers 5,000 square meters and can accommodate 5,000 people at a time. Eight stone wreaths, each 4.5 meters in diameter, are embedded on either side of the plaza. The Martyrs' Monument exudes a majestic and solemn atmosphere. The front of the monument bears Comrade Mao Zedong's powerful handwriting: "Sacrifices for the country will live forever." The back bears an inscription written in the name of the Yangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal People's Government.
