The Tianning Temple Pagoda, located on the south bank of the Yizheng River, faces the Drum Tower across the river. Together, they are known as the " twin walls " of Zhenzhou . Initially built during the Jinglong reign of the Tang Dynasty ( 709 AD ), it was destroyed during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Rebuilt during the Song Dynasty, it was again destroyed during the war between the Song and Yuan Dynasties. After repeated destruction and reconstruction throughout the dynasties, it was rebuilt in the fourth year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty. Its current structure is a brick and wood structure.
The exterior of the tower is a regular octagonal shape imitating the shape of a pavilion, with corridors on each layer and a brick and wood structure; the interior of the tower is square, with layers of accommodation that rise in an interlaced manner. The overall momentum is very spectacular and breathtaking.
The original brick and wood structures including the brake parts, waist eaves, and flat platform have collapsed in the fire, and only a brick tube tower body remains. The original tower was nearly 70 meters high, and now it is 47.2 meters high. It is still the tallest tower in Jiangsu Province and has been a scenic spot for scholars from all dynasties who came to Yizheng for sightseeing.
