Jiangsu University is located in the scenic city of Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. Approved by the Ministry of Education in August 2001, it was established through the merger of the former Jiangsu University of Science and Technology and Zhenjiang Medical College. It is a comprehensive university specializing in engineering and research.

The school shares the same origin with Nanjing University, Southeast University and other schools, and its history can be traced back to the Sanjiang Normal School founded in Nanjing in 1902.

In 1978, it was designated as one of the 88 key universities in the country by the State Council.
