Located on the northern section of Huayuan Road in Jinshui District, Zhengzhou, Zhengzhou Zoo covers an area of 430 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) and is the only professional zoo in Henan Province. It houses nearly 1,000 animals across over 100 species, including the highly protected Siberian tiger and leopard, as well as African and Asian elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, white storks, crowned cranes, flat-headed macaques, crab-eating macaques, and short-tailed macaques.
Because the park lies on a plain with no natural mountains, numerous artificial hills and six large and small lakes have been constructed, interconnected by bridges and culverts. South Lake is a paradise for waterfowl, where pairs of mandarin ducks frolic and swans swim. The Panda House, Hippo House, Orangutan House, and Elephant House, designed and constructed in the 1980s, are innovative and unique, serving as both architectural and scenic features. Many of the buildings feature indoor and outdoor exhibition halls, offering year-round viewing opportunities.
