The Dahuting Han Tombs, located in Xinmi City, 6 kilometers southwest of Zhengzhou, are one of the largest Han Dynasty tombs in China. The two tombs, located side by side in the east and west, date back over 1,800 years. These are two large Eastern Han Dynasty tombs, one on the west side, with stone reliefs and the other on the east. The tombs depict every aspect of life during the Eastern Han Dynasty, including clothing, food, housing, and transportation, creating a vivid picture scroll of Eastern Han customs.
Both tombs have long, wide, sloping passages. Located approximately 30 meters apart, the two tombs share essentially the same architectural form and structure, constructed with massive stone blocks and large blue bricks. Both are magnificent in scale. The tomb walls are richly decorated with colorful stone carvings and murals.
The interior walls, corridors, and stone doors of the remaining rooms are richly decorated with magnificent stone carvings. The corridor and front room are inscribed with "Guest Welcoming," the south side room and corridor walls are inscribed with "Horse and Chariot," the south wall is inscribed with "Rent Collection," and the side room with "Kitchen. " The "Sumo" in particular traces the origins of modern sumo in Japan.
