Qiyun Pagoda, originally known as the Sakyamuni Relic Pagoda, the Jinfang Pagoda, and the White Horse Temple Pagoda, was first built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty and rebuilt during the Jin Dynasty. Located approximately 200 meters southeast of the mountain gate of the White Horse Temple in Luoyang, it is the earliest surviving ancient structure in the Luoyang area and one of the few remaining Jin Dynasty structures in the Central Plains. Its shape reflects the dense-eaves pavilion-style pagodas of the Tang and Song dynasties, and its imitation wood structure makes it a valuable example for studying the architectural characteristics of the Jin Dynasty, particularly the structural characteristics of Jin Dynasty brick pagodas in the Central Plains. Both its form and internal structure indicate that the pagoda possesses high historical, scientific, and artistic value.
The pagoda stands 35 meters tall and has 13 floors. The pagoda complex faces south and covers an area of over 40 mu (approximately 16 acres). Since 1989, under the leadership of the Municipal Religious Affairs Bureau, the late abbot of White Horse Temple, Master Haifa, funded the construction of the Qiyun Pagoda, which boasts over 30 rooms, including meditation halls, classrooms, observation halls, monk quarters, a mountain gate, and a stele corridor. This pagoda became Henan's first nunnery. Currently, over 30 nuns study Buddhism here. Qiyun Pagoda, along with Qingliang Terrace, Tenglan Tomb, Duanwen Stele, Midnight Bell, and the Sutra Burning Terrace, was once considered one of the "Six Scenic Spots of White Horse Temple."
