Laojun Mountain is located 3 kilometers southeast of Luanchuan County, Luoyang City, Henan Province. It is the main peak of the 800-li Funiu Mountains, a remnant of the Qinling Mountains. Laojun Mountain has a Taoist cultural history of more than 2,000 years. During the Northern Wei Dynasty, a temple was built in the mountain to commemorate it. During the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty, it was granted by the emperor and the "Iron-top Laojun Temple" was built. In the 19th year of the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, the Taoist scriptures were issued and Laojun Mountain was named "Famous Mountain in the World".
To this day, Laojun Mountain has become a sacred site for the Quanzhen Sect of Taoism. Among the existing temples, the Laojun Temple on the summit is the largest, leading to the saying, "There is the Wudang Golden Summit in the south and the Laojun Iron Summit in the north."
The best time to visit Laojun Mountain is during the flowering period of azaleas from May to June. It is also a good time to visit Laojun Mountain to enjoy the autumn scenery in October.
