Yaoshan Scenic Area, located in Lushan County, Pingdingshan City, Henan Province, is a mountainous natural scenic spot. Dominating the Central Plains, Yaoshan boasts the majestic heights of northern China and the graceful beauty of southern China. Combining majesty , danger, beauty, uniqueness, and seclusion , experts describe it as possessing " the peril of Mount Hua, the steepness of Mount Emei, the beauty of Zhangjiajie, and the elegance of Mount Huangshan. "
Yaoshan, named after Liu Lei, a descendant of Emperor Yao, who built a Yao Temple to honor his ancestor, is the origin of the Liu surname. During the Warring States Period, the great thinker and social activist Mozi was born at the foot of Yaoshan Mountain, where the ruins of Mozi's hometown still exist. Yaoshan is located in the eastern section of the 800-li Funiu Mountains. Its main peak, Yuhuangding, stands at an altitude of 2,153.1 meters. Because the numerous stone peaks on the mountain resemble human figures, Yaoshan is also known as " Stone Man Mountain " or " Stone Man Stack " among local people .
Within the scenic area's 268 square kilometers, unique peaks, grotesque rocks, waterfalls, hot springs, mountain flowers, crimson leaves, lakes, seas of clouds, primeval forests, rare animals, and numerous cultural attractions form a comprehensive landscape. Yaoshan , known for its " 36 scenic spots and 72 scenic attractions ," is picturesque and captivating, each with its own fascinating story and legend. Every step offers a breathtaking spectacle. The numerous peaks and grotesque rocks are a hallmark of Yaoshan's natural landscape.
Yaoshan Mountain offers charming scenery in each season. In spring, green leaves dance, birds sing, and flowers bloom; in summer, the forest is deep and shady, and the air is refreshing; in autumn, the mountains are laden with fruits, and the forests are colorful; in winter, the mountains are covered in snow, like a fairyland.
