Longtan Gorge is located about 4 kilometers from the foot of Yaoshan Scenic Area in Lushan County, Henan Province, in the hinterland of Funiu Mountain . It is 5 kilometers long and has a natural drop of 1,200 meters. There are more than 100 named scenic spots in the scenic area, especially the one forest, two streams, three peaks, four caves, five wonders, six waterfalls, seven pools, eight stones, nine fruits, and ten trees. Longtan Gorge Scenic Area is known as the " Funiu Water Soul " for its Tongtian Waterfall, which is famous in the Central Plains .
The granite terrain and landform in Longtan Gorge Scenic Area are unique, with steep cliffs on both sides, endless waterfalls and pools, and a forest coverage rate of over 90% . Most of the trees are deciduous trees, including oak, lacquer, mulberry, willow, peach, apricot and other hundreds of species of trees, which grow in forests and cover the mountains and shade the canyons.
The Longtan River in the scenic area meanders for four or five miles, like a giant dragon from ancient times, freely drifting between the green mountains and a canyon on both sides. It weaves through streams and gorges, twists and turns, leaps over cliffs and climbs over rocks, never losing its vitality. The mountains are high, the waters are long, and there are many pools and waterfalls. Every cliff is shrouded by a waterfall, with Longtan Waterfall being the most spectacular.
