Shangqiu People's Park is located at the intersection of Yuanlin Road and Qingnian Road in Liangyuan District, Shangqiu City. Founded in 1958, it covers a total area of 35.24 hectares, including 7.8 hectares of water area.
The Bao River runs through the park, naturally dividing it into several functional areas, including the front flower and tree area, the animal viewing area, and the rear Dongfeng Lake landscape garden area. Shangqiu People's Park is the only large comprehensive park in Shangqiu City, receiving 3.8 million visitors annually. Its scale and level are among the best in the province and surrounding cities.
After a large-scale renovation, Shangqiu People's Park has seen a significant improvement in its overall appearance. Its cultural landscape and garden features are harmoniously integrated and complement each other. Its infrastructure and comprehensive service functions are increasingly improved. Green space coverage has reached over 80%, and water area accounts for 15%. It has been repeatedly designated a "Civilized Unit" by the provincial, municipal, and district levels. In 2000, it was awarded the title of "Window Service Demonstration Unit" by the Provincial Department of Construction. In 2002, it fully achieved "provincial greening standards." Today, People's Park boasts "shaded trees," "beautiful scenery," "lakes and mountains," and "pleasing views," becoming a high-end, high-quality, and advanced park in eastern Henan.
With a temperate monsoon climate, the Shangqiu Municipal People's Government has decided to open the People's Park to the public free of charge, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.

Located in the front area of the park, animal cages are set up around the garden, and the middle part is divided into a large area of flowers, trees and lawns. There are dozens of national first- and second-class animals such as Siberian tigers, bears, deer, cranes, monkeys, and more than a dozen amphibians such as chameleons, giant salamanders, turtles, slow lorises, etc. Among them, the number of Siberian tigers and the breeding technology are among the best in the country. Now it has applied to become a national Siberian tiger breeding base.
Yilin Garden
Located in the front area of the park, it cleverly integrates various precious trees such as osmanthus, albizzia, heather, and koelreuteria with large lawns using botanical gardening techniques, showing the prosperous early spring scenery.
Rose Garden, Peony Garden
Located in the front area of the park, it is mainly composed of large areas of peonies and roses. A large sculpture fountain is designed in the south, which vividly achieves the three-dimensional garden landscape effect of enjoying flowers, playing with water, and viewing the scenery.

The park is located in Liangyuan District, Shangqiu, Henan (address: FM46+3Q7, Guangfu St, Liangyuan District). Getting there:
The park is open every day (as typical for public city parks) — free access in daylight hours is the norm. For the best experience:
Entry to the park is free, as it is a public urban park.
No booking is required for a free public park. Just arrive during opening hours.
1-2 hours are sufficient for a leisurely stroll and photography. If you want to relax and enjoy multiple spots (lake, benches, gardens) you might spend up to half a day.
No formal guided tours or multilingual audio guides are noted for this park. It is primarily a free-access city park rather than a paid historical attraction.
Being a city park, it is likely accessible in early evening, but formal light shows or special tours are not prominently advertised. Visit during dusk for the best effect.
Weekends and public holidays are busier with families and local visitors (as one reviewer noted: “on holiday weekend it is full of people out to enjoy the time off”). Least crowded: Weekday mornings (especially Tuesday-Thursday) when local foot traffic is lower.
Facilities in a central urban park typically include public restrooms, benches/rest areas, water fountains or taps, and potentially small snack kiosks near entrances. Although explicit listings for this park are limited, visitors can reasonably expect basic services.
