Ten peaks exceeding 1,000 meters are found within the area, most of which are located in the northeast and southeast regions.
Wanshi Mountain is a mountain with a glorious revolutionary history. During the Long March, the Red Army's Central Route Army passed through Dongjiangshui Village and Yuwang Village in Reshui Town, located at the northern foot of the mountain, and headed straight for Sanjiangkou. The Left Route Army, descending from Da'ao on the southern slope of Wanshi Mountain along Chenou, crossed Wanshi Mountain and entered the city of Renhua. The two Red Army routes headed straight for Yanshou, breaking through the Kuomintang's second blockade and marching north to fight the Japanese. During the revolutionary war, both the Wuling Prefectural Committee and the Chongrenru Revolutionary Committee sowed the seeds of revolution and waged revolutionary struggle in Wanshi Mountain. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, General Chiang Ching-kuo established a helicopter airfield on a meadow at the top of the mountain, preparing for guerrilla warfare against the Japanese in the mountains. From the 1960s to the 1980s, the People's Liberation Army stationed troops there for air defense.
Wanshi Mountain has a subtropical monsoon humid climate; the average annual temperature is 17.8 degrees, and the annual rainfall is 1,600 mm. The climate is mild and the rainfall is abundant, making it suitable for travel in all seasons.
