The Axi Fire Festival takes place annually on the third day of the second lunar month in Hongwan Village, Xiyi Town, Mile County, Yunnan Province. The Axi people, a minority of the Yi ethnic group, hold a grand and spectacular celebration of returning to nature. This mystical celebration, akin to a mad ecstasy, reveres fire as the spirit of all creation. This Fire God Festival is an ancient tradition passed down from ancestors, said to have a history of nearly a thousand years.
