Zhejiang Wuyanling National Nature Reserve is located on the boundary between the northern and southern subtropical zones in the mid-subtropics, in the northwest of Taishun County, Zhejiang Province, connected to Shouning, Fujian Province in the west and Jingning, Zhejiang Province in the north. It is 245 kilometers away from Wenzhou City. It is China's closest national nature reserve for forest ecology and wildlife bordering the East China Sea.
The steep mountains, vast area, complex topography and virgin forests in the reserve constitute a variety of unique natural landscapes.
There are 2,150 species of plants and more than 50 species of nationally protected animals in the reserve.
The world's rare and endangered bird, China's first-class protected animal, the yellow-bellied tragopan, lives here.
The reserve belongs to the "Nanling-Min'ou mid-subtropical" climate zone, which is warm and humid, with distinct four seasons and abundant rainfall, and has the characteristics of a mid-subtropical marine monsoon climate.
All seasons are suitable for visiting, but spring and autumn are the best.
Baiyunjian
The main peak, Baiyunjian, is 1,611.3 meters above sea level. It is a famous mountain in southern Zhejiang and the highest peak in Wenzhou City. Due to the high mountain and the thick clouds and fog all year round, it is called Baiyunjian.
Baiyun Waterfall
Located at Tengli'ao, on the left side of Baiyunjian, this waterfall is one of the sources of the Feiyun River, the main source of Baiyunjian. The waterfall is pristine white year-round, like a giant silk thread cascading from a cliff over 30 meters high, plunging into a four- to five-meter-deep pit carved into the rock mass. With a thunderous roar, the water splashes over ten meters, creating rainbows.
Mixaitan
At the confluence of Baiyunjian and Liguangxi, there are tall and graceful rock peaks and lush trees above the pool. The stream water gushes out from the deep stone caves. A natural rock pier cleverly forms in the pool, like a rice sieve, sifting out the green and blue stones in the water.
Xiaolongtan
It is located 1 km inside Shuangkengkou and shares the same stream with Sanzhe Waterfall. There is a sloping cliff over 6 meters high on the pool. The water flows like a white dragon, and the snow piles up like silver. The branches around the pool sway with the wind from the waterfall.
Wuyan Cuiling
Wuyan Cuiling, with its lowest elevation at 665 meters, is located at Shuangkengkou. The reserve is surrounded by towering peaks over 1,000 meters high, making it a popular summer destination for alpine forest tourism, mountaineering, and adventure.
Longjing Pond
Located one kilometer away from Shuangkengkou, the pool is divided into two parts, the upper one is round, with an area of more than 20 square meters, and the water depth is unfathomable. The surrounding cliffs are like shears. The water from the upper reaches of Baiyunjian forms a water column with a drop of five meters, rushing directly into the pool. Over the years, a barrel-shaped deep pool has been formed, which is Longjing.
Bajie Patrolling the Mountain
Bajie Patrol Mountain, located below Baiyun Peak, is a 10-meter-tall remnant of eroded rock. Its shape and movements resemble those of Zhu Bajie, hence the name. Nearby, numerous remnant rocks, some 4 and 6 meters high, each with its own name, form part of the mountaintop's scenic landscape.
Wanjin Waterfall
Located in Wanjinkeng, 1,023 meters above sea level, it is the highest waterfall in Zhejiang Province. The waterfall is about 2 meters wide and has a height difference of about 15 meters. The water flows all year round and there is a deep pool under the waterfall.

Wuyanling National Nature Reserve is a protected area that boasts rich biodiversity, featuring a variety of rare and endangered species. The reserve plays a critical role in conserving the local flora and fauna while also serving as a popular destination for eco-tourism and scientific research.
The reserve is located in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is accessible by taxi or private car from Wenzhou city. Public transportation options are limited, but buses to nearby towns may be available. Walking is possible within the park, especially along the marked trails.
The reserve is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The best times to visit are during the spring and autumn months when the weather is mild and the area is less crowded. Early mornings and late afternoons offer the most pleasant hiking conditions.
The entrance fee is typically around 40-80 RMB, depending on the season. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance, and some online booking options may be available through local platforms.
While it’s not mandatory to book tickets in advance, it’s recommended during peak tourist seasons (such as national holidays). Booking 1-2 days in advance is sufficient.
You will need about 3-4 hours to explore the main trails and viewpoints. If you plan to visit multiple sections or take a guided tour, you may want to allow half a day or more.
Guided tours are available in Mandarin, and sometimes English-speaking guides can be arranged upon request. Audio guides are typically available in Mandarin, and may be available in English with prior arrangements.
Start by visiting the main observation tower for panoramic views. Then, take a guided trail through the forest and wetlands to see the wildlife. End your visit with a walk to the waterfalls for some scenic photography.
Night visits are not available at the Wuyanling National Nature Reserve. The park is only open during the day, but special eco-tours can be arranged upon request.
The reserve can be busy during weekends and public holidays. The least crowded times are weekdays, especially early mornings or late afternoons. The spring and autumn months are less crowded compared to summer.
There are toilets and basic food stalls near the entrance. Water is available for purchase, and rest areas are scattered along the trails. There are no major shops inside the reserve, but small souvenir stalls may be present near the entrance.
While some areas are accessible for elderly and children, the trails can be steep and challenging in certain sections. Disabled visitors may find it difficult to navigate some of the rugged terrain. It's best to inquire about accessibility in advance.
Mobile payments like WeChat Pay and Alipay are widely accepted, as well as cash in local currency. Credit cards are not commonly accepted inside the reserve.
There are a few local restaurants and cafes near the entrance to the reserve offering traditional Zhejiang cuisine, such as seafood dishes, noodles, and dumplings.
Vegetarian options are available, especially in local restaurants that serve Chinese-style vegetable dishes. Halal food options are limited but may be available in some larger towns near Wenzhou.
Small souvenir shops near the entrance offer local crafts, such as hand-carved wooden items, tea, and local snacks. Traditional Zhejiang pottery and silk products are also common souvenirs.
After visiting, taxis, buses, or private cars are the best ways to continue your trip. Wenzhou’s public transport system is efficient, and buses can take you to nearby towns or back to the city center.
