Chaoyin Waterfall was originally named Yuling Waterfall. In 1931, Ye Gongchuo visited here and wrote "Chaoyin Waterfall" because the sound it made was like the surging tide, and thus the waterfall was named after it.
Chaoyin Waterfall is the end of the Neijiushui River. Surrounded by steep cliffs, the southeastern side of the waterfall cascades through a crack in the rock, resembling a gate. The waterfall cascades down through three bends. The first bend, about 6 meters long, flows westward, pouring into a bulging stone trough. The second bend, northwestward, pours into an oval stone vat. The third bend, about 10 meters long, pours into a pool over 20 meters in diameter. The cascade creates layers of scales, resembling pieces of broken jade, hence the ancient name Chaoyin Waterfall.
