Located in Tengchong, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province, the Yaoting Museum is said to have once been a business owned by the Li family of Heshun. Before the Anti-Japanese War, it was one of the largest Chinese businesses. The family returned to Heshun to support the war effort.
Through generations of inheritance, the descendants of the Li family have collected antiques and jadeite from their ancestors and established the Yaoting Museum to commemorate the past. Therefore, in this Li family mansion, you can not only see many exquisite items but also taste Tengchong's most authentic local snacks, such as Dajiujia (a type of glutinous rice) and Toutou (a type of tofu), a specialty dish that can only be tasted in Heshun, Tengchong.
"The Yaoting Museum showcases the vicissitudes of family history and the culture of our hometown," Yang Runsheng described his family museum in his handwritten preface to the Yaoting Museum. The Yang family's ancestral home is in Changsha, Hunan, and their ancestors followed the army to Tengchong, where they settled on the border. Twenty-two generations have passed through the family, and the responsibility of preserving and carrying on the family's culture now falls to his wife, Li Lanxian.
The tropical monsoon climate combines the advantages of continental and maritime climates. Winter and spring are sunny and warm, while summer and autumn have a mix of sunny and rainy weather and are cool and pleasant. All four seasons are suitable for travel.
