Introducing Ningji Lake

Ningji Lake is located in Shanglaxiu Township, Yushu County, about 60 kilometers from Jiegu Town, at an altitude of approximately 4,200 meters. It covers over 90 square kilometers and reaches a maximum depth of approximately 30 meters. The lake is highly mineralized and saltwater, and is home to a rich population of plateau naked carp.

During spring and summer, bar-headed geese, gulls, ruddy shelducks, whooper swans, and black-necked cranes hatch and raise their chicks here. Ningji Lake, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, resembles a beautiful landscape embedded in the green mountains, surrounded by cattle, sheep, and tents. The scenery is truly captivating. Legend has it that on the fifteenth night of the Tibetan calendar, the sounds of mysterious musical instruments emanate from the lake. Locals deify the lake as sacred to Tara, holding religious ceremonies in July and August each year.
