Yanchishan Reservoir is a small (Type I) reservoir primarily used for agricultural irrigation, with additional functions including flood control and drinking water for humans and livestock. Located 2.5 kilometers south of Ludian County, on the Tuzhusi River, a tributary of the Zhaolu River's source, it was built in 1956 and provides flood protection for 90,000 urban and rural residents and 150,000 mu of farmland downstream. In 2007, it was designated a central budget special fund (government bond) investment project with a total investment of 7.77 million yuan. Construction began in October 2008. Construction primarily involved grouting and reinforcing the reservoir dam, conducting anti-seepage treatment on the dam foundation, constructing a new water diversion tunnel, and renovating the spillway. Upon completion in December 2009, the reservoir not only restored its original irrigation and flood control functions but also provided drinking water for 48,000 people and 23,000 livestock in and around the county, achieving significant social and ecological benefits.
Yanchishan Reservoir, covering 1,250 mu (approximately 1,250 mu) and holding 5 million cubic meters of water year-round, boasts excellent, pollution-free water quality. Two roads lead to the reservoir, making it a popular destination for swimming, water activities, and fishing. It attracts a constant stream of visitors year-round, demonstrating its potential for development. Currently, the area has become a comprehensive tourist destination offering vacations, leisure, and entertainment, complete with rest areas, awnings, and a 300-seat service building with a restaurant, accommodation, and entertainment facilities. Over 30 yachts of various types are also available.
