Introducing Meng Xiaoju Stele

The Meng Xiaoju Stele is located within Zhaotong No. 3 Middle School. Unearthed in 1901 at Bainijing outside Zhaotong City, the stele was later relocated to Fengchi Academy (now Zhaotong No. 3 Middle School) within Zhaotong City. A pavilion now protects the stele.

The remaining height of the Meng Xiaoju Stele is 1.33 meters and its width is 0.96 meters. The inscription consists of 15 lines, with 21 characters remaining per line (inferred from the text, 77 characters should be missing). It is written in official script, resulting in a total of 256 characters remaining. Due to the missing upper section, only characters such as "Bingshen," "Tenth Month Guimao," and "Shiyiyue Yimao" remain. Due to the lack of a reign title, the date of the stele's erection remains uncertain. Research suggests it was erected in the third year of Yongshou in the Eastern Han Dynasty (157 AD). This is the only remaining Han Dynasty stele in Yunnan Province.
