The Muyang Ancient Ferry, located in Qiachuan Town, Heyang County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, served as a waterway for communication between the Qin and Jin dynasties in ancient times. Today, an ancient ferry still remains at Xiayang Ferry, 20 kilometers east of Heyang County, on the bank of the Yellow River.
A gong (a wooden gong) is a large ceramic container with a small mouth and a large, elongated belly. Anciently, it was used by people along the Yellow River near the border of Heyang and Hancheng to draw water, store water, and store grain. This simple object sparked a legendary battle. The story of Han Xin, Marquis of Huaiyin, capturing King Bao of Wei by making a feint to the east and attacking in the west, using the wooden gong to cross the river, has become a legendary legend. Today, the site still remains.
Tracing its history, Li Daoyuan of the Northern Wei Dynasty recorded in his Water Classic, Volume 4: "The Xishui River flows north of the old city of Xiayang County, formerly known as Shaoliang. In the past, when Han Xin attacked King Bao of Wei, he crossed here using a wooden raft." Thirty years later, the Yellow River shifted eastward, and now, with the main course of the Yellow River shifting eastward, we no longer see the magnificent scene of the Xiayang Ferry, where water and sky met. However, standing at the ruins of "Han Xin City" and "Qi Wang Ping" on the western plateau, one can still reflect on the past and recall those thrilling scenes.
