The Menglian Grand Golden Pagoda is located on the banks of the Nanlei River in Menglian County, Pu'er City. It consists of eight small pagodas surrounding a main pagoda. The main pagoda is 31.68 meters high. Each pagoda is hung with wind chimes. Whenever the wind blows, the wind chimes make crisp tinkling sounds, making people feel the unique Buddhist charm.

The Great Golden Pagoda stands facing the gatehouse of the Menglian Xuanfu Office, symbolizing the unity and progress of the people of Menglian. Legend has it that the origins of the Menglian Golden Pagoda are closely linked to the office. The office, known in Dai as "Hehan," means "Golden Hall." Long ago, people envisioned a pagoda that would complement the Golden Hall, and in 1997, the pagoda was built on the site. Upon its completion, the Golden Pagoda complements the Golden Hall beautifully.

Among the ancillary buildings of the Menglian Shwedagon Pagoda, the four square pavilions surrounding the pagoda's base are the most prominent. "Square pavilions" are called "Chi'ola" in the Dai language, meaning "pointing pavilions," offering guidance and direction. These four pavilions, located in different directions, enshrine the Four Heavenly Kings of the four directions, respectively. The Shwedagon Pagoda is solid on the outside but hollow on the inside, though only men are allowed access to its underground chambers.
