The Fudi Lake Pristine Ecological Scenic Area is located in Yijun County, a national ecological county, 160 kilometers from Xi'an and over 20 kilometers from Huangling. Satellite images show it as the only oasis on the Weibei Plateau, with a forest coverage rate of 97.8% and an average summer temperature of 20.8°C, making it a great summer escape. The ruins of the Northern Wei Dynasty Grottoes on the island in the center of Fudi Lake add a touch of ancient culture to the beautiful natural landscape.
Fudi Lake Scenic Area is located in Fudilin, 18 kilometers east of Yijun County, Tongchuan City. It is 30 kilometers from the Mausoleum of the Yellow Emperor and 150 kilometers from Xi'an. In 1998, the county government, through a concerted effort, identified a promising area and revitalized Fudi Lake, a scenic spot in Yijun that had been nearly forgotten.
The warm temperate continental monsoon climate makes it suitable for travel in all four seasons.
The Northern Wei Grottoes, nestled midway up the lake, were constructed in 446 AD. They integrate Buddhism and Taoism into a single grotto. Initially carved during the Northern Wei dynasty, the grottoes also saw sporadic excavations during the Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, Song, and Qing dynasties. The grottoes are square, with a flat roof, 1.25 meters deep, 1.78 meters wide, and 1.29 meters high. Niches with statues are carved in the center and on the left and right walls. The central niche depicts Shakyamuni Buddha seated in lotus position, with a figure kneeling in worship before a Boshan censer carved to the lower left.
