Located east of Black Tiger Spring and on the south bank of the moat, the Agate Spring is 3.7 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, and 2.2 meters deep. Surrounded by stone banks, the northeast, west, and east sides of the pool are built into the moat. When the water is high, several springs surge forth, and clusters of bubbles emerge from the bottom, resembling agate in the sunlight. When the spring water overflows, it flows into the moat through six square holes in the north wall, 0.5 meters above the river surface.
Agate Spring was ranked 27th among Jinan's 72 most famous springs, newly compiled in April 2004. During peak water season, several springs compete to gush out, and strings of bubbles rise from the bottom of the pool, swaying upwards. Illuminated by sunlight, they create a dazzling, agate-like spectacle. Locals in Jinan say this is why Agate Spring has earned such a magnificent name.
Jinan has a temperate monsoon climate with obvious monsoons and distinct four seasons: dry and rainy spring, warm and rainy summer, cool and dry autumn, and cold and snowy winter.
