Hongfan Pond is located north of the government road in Hongfanchi Town, Pingyin County, Jinan City, Shandong Province. It is the most famous of the Hongfan Ponds and Springs. The name of the pond comes from the "Hongfan" in the Book of Documents, which means floodwaters are flowing in the direction of the water.
On the south wall of the spring pool, the characters "Longchi" are inscribed in running script. Below them, a bluestone dragon head emerges from the pool wall. Spring water gushes from the dragon's mouth, but it doesn't appear to be gushing. The water is as clear and calm as a mirror, flowing continuously throughout the four seasons. Yang Shiyuan, a Qing Dynasty poet, once inscribed a couplet: "The pool's reflection constantly reflects the world, never waxing or waning with the passage of time."
Because the spring water is buoyant, coins dropped into the water will not sink for a long time, and the "Hongfan Floating Gold" has become one of the famous local attractions. The water quality of Hongfan Pond is excellent and rich in minerals.
Jinan has a temperate monsoon climate with obvious monsoons and distinct four seasons: dry and rainy spring, warm and rainy summer, cool and dry autumn, and cold and snowy winter.
