Introducing Hu Quan

Hushan Col lies on the shady side of Yuncui Mountain, boasting steep cliffs. At the lower western end of the col lies a mysterious natural cave, from which the Hu Spring gushes forth. While the water flows gently in normal times, during heavy rains, it gushes forth from the cavern, a column of water billowing upwards, its spray billowing like a cascade. Passing over a small rock pool, it cascades down the valley, creating a waterfall whose impact on the rocks resonates for miles. Ancient cypress trees cling to the rock faces, and green slivers of water extrude from the crevices. The ancients dubbed this scene "Huquan Yongbi," one of the Eight Ancient Scenic Spots of Dong'e. Today, four large vermilion characters, written by Meng Yimai, the Right Censor-in-Chief of the Ming Dynasty, remain engraved on the southern cliff face. They have been restored to a more beautiful and spectacular state.

Huquan is located 2 kilometers south of Hongfanchi, in a valley at the northern foot of Yuncui Mountain. It's named Huquan because the site of the ancient Hu State capital lies to the north of the spring. Huquan originates from a natural cave at the foot of the steep cliffs of the valley, about one meter in diameter, and its depths are unfathomable.

Huquan Spring flows out of a cave. During peak water levels, the spring flows through a rocky pool and cascades down the valley, creating a waterfall. Its impact on the rocks creates a sound that can be heard for miles. Ancient cypresses hang over the rock face, and a clear stream squeezes out of cracks in the rocks. The ancients called this scene "Huquan Yongbi." On the cliff south of the spring, four large characters, "Huquan Yongbi," are inscribed by Ming Dynasty Jinshi Meng Yimai.
