Introducing Mapao Spring

Mapao Spring is located at the northwest foot of a rockery east of the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall in Baotu Spring Park, Jinan, Shandong Province. The spring flows into a stream, blending seamlessly with the rockery. The spring flows around the north side of the rockery and into the Dongluo River. The Mapao Spring pool is actually composed of two springs, the other of which is called "Qianjing Spring."

The spring pool is irregularly shaped, slightly rectangular. It is 12 meters long and just over 5 meters wide. Its banks are built of eroded limestone, creating a zigzag, undulating, and interlaced pattern. Spring water flows from crevices in the rocks, flowing northeast along a stream at the bottom of the pool before emptying into the moat (Xiluo River). Surrounding the pool are jagged rocks and shaded by lush greenery, creating a particularly elegant and picturesque scene.

Guan Sheng led his army in defeating the Jin soldiers repeatedly, but was ultimately killed outside the west gate of Jinan by the Jin soldiers and Liu Yu. Upon seeing his master's death, Guan Sheng's horse neighed and pawed the ground with its front hooves, eventually creating a clear spring. This is the Mapao Spring.
