Zhongyandang Mountain, historically known as "the first mountain in the southeast", is located in Yueqing City.
As a nationally renowned scenic spot, it attracts millions of visitors every year. However, upon reaching Beiyan Mountain, people often feel they have seen all the famous mountains on the sea, while the other part of Yandang Mountain, Zhongyan, has long been hidden and little known.
Summer resorts are mainly selected based on five indicators: scenery, services, food and accommodation, transportation, and water-friendliness. Yueqing Zhongyan Dang Mountain is selected as one of the top ten summer resorts in Zhejiang because of its beautiful scenery, average summer temperature of 26℃, high water-friendliness, convenient transportation, and unique seafood cuisine.
Spring, summer, and autumn are the best seasons to visit Yandang Mountain. The best time to see the waterfalls is during the abundant rainfall, especially in May and June, or August and September, after the rains around the 15th day of the lunar calendar. Choose a clear day after rain to witness the 200-meter drop of Dalongqiu, resembling a giant dragon descending from the sky. The majestic spectacle is especially striking after heavy rain.
Yuzeng Peak
Yuzeng Peak is the totem of Zhongyan Dang Mountain. The earliest chronicle of Zhongyan Dang is simply titled "Yuzeng Peak Chronicle," reflecting the importance of Yuzeng Peak among Zhongyan's seven scenic areas. As the saying goes, "The road passes overhead, and one journeys deep within the white clouds." Yuzeng Peak towers above the clouds, a solitary peak, towering over all others. This solitary height alone inspires a sense of awe and awe in those who ascend. Yuzeng Peak is undeniably the backbone of Zhongyan Dang Mountain, providing structure and structure for all the peaks, valleys, and waters of Zhongyan. Beyond its height, the peak boasts the magnificent and expansive Yuhong Cave, a cave within a cave. At its summit, a miniature world of undulating mountains and waters unfolds, a truly unfathomable wonder. Also known as Taoist Rock, it resembles an inverted bronze bell, rising from the ground with an imposing presence. Yuzeng Peak is the symbol of the Central Yandang Mountains. The Rainbow Cave, nestled beneath its waist, is where the mountain's founder, Li Shaohe, a Jinshi (a scholar) from the Song Dynasty, practiced his cultivation. Climbing to the summit of Yuzeng Peak and gazing out in all directions, a sense of righteousness arises spontaneously.
Three Lakes
The Three Lakes (Baishi Lake, Zhongqian Lake, and Longshan Lake) lie at the foot of Yuzeng Peak, the main peak of Zhongyan Dang Mountain. They cover a total area of 692 hectares and hold a total water storage capacity of 36 million cubic meters. With their clean air and pleasant environment, they are a popular summer retreat for boating. These three lakes are the pride of Zhongyan. Their presence gives Zhongyan the confidence to rival other renowned mountains in beauty. The combination of lake and mountain is a picturesque scene; even the most ordinary mountains and lakes would suddenly take on a radiant beauty, let alone the emerald green mountains and jade-like lakes of Zhongyan! The gentle beauty of the three lakes, the graceful peaks surrounding them, and the majestic Yuzeng Peak, towering over the Five Sacred Mountains—how often can one witness this fusion of beauty? As a hydraulic engineering project, these three artificial lakes have realized Xie Lingyun's dream of "a thousand acres of distant embankments, a thousand miles of long waterways." Their remarkable achievement lies in the way this utilitarian ingenuity has been perfectly integrated with the work of nature. The three lakes exemplify the beauty of nature and the harmony of human and natural beauty.
Dongxia
The Dongji River stretches for seven miles, winding through seven turns. Its banks are craggy and rocky, creating a myriad of scenic landscapes. It boasts numerous waterfalls and pools, and the stream gurgles year-round. The most notable attractions in Dongji are the Zhongtan Lake at the bottom of the Seven Bends and the Meiyutan Lake at the center of the Four Bends. The former, with its waterfalls and pools, is breathtaking in form, sound, and color; the latter, with its deep, turquoise waters, overflowing without ever drying up, evokes a sense of reverie. The East and West Ji (Yi Ji) form the two wings of Yuzeng Peak. The West Ji is renowned for its peaks and rocks, while the East Ji boasts waterfalls and pools. Dongji boasts a stream named Donglong Street, which meanders for seven miles, connecting a series of distinctive blue pools: Zhongtan Lake, Lianzhu Lake, Xiaolong Lake, Meiyutan Lake, and Lianhua Lake. Interspersed among these pools are the Huansha Waterfall, Mawei Waterfall, and Meiyutan Lake. Meiyutan Lake and Meiyutan Lake are the crowning attractions of Dongji, surpassing the beauty of Meiyutan Lake at Xianyan Rock. The best waters in Zhongyan are found in the Three Lakes and Dongji scenic areas. The three lakes are clear and charming, reflecting the still beauty of water, while the East Lake showcases the dynamic beauty of water. Zhongyan, with its dynamic and still water beauty, complements and supports the mountain landscape, making it naturally radiant.
Xixia
Xiji is a canyon whose ochre-colored, flat, sand-free rock floor evokes the flowing creek, resembling a long, flowing dragon, earning it the name "Dragon Street." Dragon Street winds for several miles, with peaks and rocks cascading on either side. Every step offers a breathtaking array of scenery, leaving one breathtakingly captivating. The Shimen Waterfall and Water Curtain Cave upstream, and the Bazhe Waterfall and Longshan Lake downstream, are the most spectacular. Xiji is a dazzling symphony for Zhongyan. Numerous scenic spots, dominated by unusual peaks and rocks, line the creek, stretching five miles from east to west, creating a breathtaking display of natural beauty. Xiji's diverse peaks and rocks, with their lifelike depictions of objects and people, rival those of Beiyan, and the water and trees. Tsinghua's tranquility and elegance are rarely found elsewhere, resulting in a highly inclusive aesthetic appeal that appeals to both the elite and the masses. The beauty of the western structure is also breathtaking: from east to west, the Eight-Fold Waterfall starts with a vigorous stroke, worthy of being called a "phoenix head"; the section from Xilong Street to Yuniutan is the main body, rich in content and full of spirit, worthy of being called a "pig belly"; when it seems that there is no way out, you see a twist and turn, and a Peach Blossom Spring-like Shimen scenic spot is suddenly pushed in front of you. Look how wonderful this last stroke of "leopard tail" is!
Phoenix Mountain
Phoenix Mountain, two kilometers southwest of Baishi Town, is part of the peripheral scenic area of Zhongyan Dang Mountain. Nestled between two peaks, it resembles a phoenix spreading its wings. Within the area, overlapping rock formations and lush forests offer dozens of scenic spots, centered around peaks and rocks. Among them, Eagle's Beak, Banzhang, and Chuanbi Rocks stand out with awe-inspiring force, with Chuanbi Rock being the most impressive. Rising over 500 meters into the air, it echoes Taoist Rock (Yuzeng Peak) in the distance, earning it the nickname "Taoist Rock Shadow." Green waters flow around the village at the foot of the mountain, and flat fields stretch far into the distance. Winding paths lead to secluded paths, filled with the fragrance of flowers and the chirping of birds. Ancient temples loom in the forest, shrouded in mist and cloud, creating a unique blend of rural and mountain charm. While this scenic spot might seem like a minor detail, Zhongyan would be less impressive without it. For Zhongyan, it serves as a welcome foreshadowing, a fascinating preview.
Yangbadong
Yangbadong (also known as Gaizhudong) is a reference to Zhongyan Dang, yet it itself is also a distinct work. Back when Zhongyan Dang was still known as Baishishan, its name was already recorded in the Song Dynasty Taoist text "Yunji Qiqian," revered as the "Nineteenth Cave Heaven Under Heaven." As a Taoist sanctuary, Yangbadong exudes a strong mythical and fairy-like atmosphere, as evidenced by the interconnected names of its eight caves: Baoguang, Guanyin, Toutian, Touhai, Longgun, Baxian, Hunyuan, and Yuchan. This atmosphere is further enhanced by the melodious sounds of pine and bamboo that permeate the valley. Yangbadong is also renowned for its rock formations, each imbued with a striking resemblance to human form and objects, imbued with folk humor. After all, Yangbadong is located on earth, not in heaven, so it can be considered a reference to a folk tale in Zhongyan Dang.
Liugonggu
Liugong Valley is the outermost scenic spot of the Central Yandang Mountains, located on opposite sides of the mountain alongside Yangbadong. This small, sloping canyon is named after the surname of a virtuous official in local history, whose virtuous deeds included the construction of a canal that still functions today.
Since Yandang Mountain's scenic spots are scattered, there is currently no unified entrance fee. You can buy tickets for any attraction you want to visit.
