The Weihai Forts are located on the hillsides and hilltops of the Weihai Coast. The rear fort, located on a hill 150 meters north of the battlements of the Naval Academy, consists of underground shelters and gun emplacements. The shelters, built on the sunny slope of the hill, feature north-south tunnels arranged in a row from east to west, with seven doorways. The tunnel walls are clad with ashlars, with arched slopes on both sides. There are two above-ground gun emplacements, both in the form of circular pits with a diameter of 13.4 meters.
A tunnel led to the barracks, allowing artillerymen to reach the fort directly. The tunnel, a masonry structure with a granite arched dome, reached a height of 4 meters and was 32 meters wide. The tunnel was well-equipped with ventilation systems. Eleven barracks, each approximately 22 square meters, were built in front of the fort, following the terrain. These were located at the tunnel exit and connected to the tunnel, allowing for easy access.
It has a temperate continental semi-humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons, moderate cold and hot seasons, synchronized light and temperature, and simultaneous rain and heat. Spring is dry and windy, summer is hot and rainy, autumn is sunny and refreshing, and winter is cold and snowy.
