The Jang Bogo Memorial Tower is located in the Chishan Scenic Area on Shidao Island in Rongcheng, Shandong Province, adjacent to the Fahua Temple. Its construction was initiated in 1994 by Ms. Choi Min-ja, President of the Korean World Federation. The tower base is 19 meters long, 16 meters wide, and 18 meters high; the tower body is 15 meters tall. The tower's columns are 1 x 1 square meter, separated by 0.5 meters. The tower's unique design features two stone columns representing the peoples of China and South Korea, connected at the top to symbolize the friendship between the two countries.
Zhang Baogao, a native of Silla (present-day South Korea), entered the Tang Dynasty in 807 AD, the second year of Emperor Xianzong's Yuanhe reign, and joined the Wuning Army in Xuzhou. Du Mu's Biography of Zhang Baogao and Zheng Nian records: "Zhang Baogao and Zheng Nian came from their countries to Xuzhou and served as junior generals in the army.
Jang Bogo is considered a national hero by Koreans for ending the persecution of Silla's people and their trafficking to Tang. He also facilitated maritime trade among China, South Korea, and Japan, opening up the Maritime Silk Road and contributing significantly to the prosperity of East Asia's economy. A memorial tower was constructed at the Fahuayuan Temple in Chishan, Rongcheng, Shandong Province, and South Korean President Kim Yeong-sam personally inscribed the inscription, "Jang Bogo Memorial Tower."
It has a temperate continental semi-humid monsoon climate with distinct four seasons, moderate cold and hot seasons, synchronized light and temperature, and simultaneous rain and heat. Spring is dry and windy, summer is hot and rainy, autumn is sunny and refreshing, and winter is cold and snowy.
