Introducing Cai Family Residence

Located in Liuke Village, Bo'ao Town, Qionghai City, Hainan Province, the Cai Family Residence was built by Cai Jiasen, a former Indonesian overseas Chinese leader. Its rectangular plan comprises four brick-concrete courtyard-style buildings, each housing the Cai brothers: Cai Jiasen's Residence, Cai Jiabing's Residence, Cai Jiajin's Residence, and Cai Jiahong's Residence. With over fifty rooms of varying sizes, the layout resembles a maze, and from the outside, it resembles an ancient castle. It's known as the "First Residence of the Overseas Chinese Hometown."

The ancient residence, with its quaint ethnic charm, embodies a rich Nanyang style. The front eaves are carved with soaring dragon heads, and the doors and windows are exquisitely carved with traditional wood carvings. The columns and balustrades feature Western-style three-dimensional flower plates and ancient Roman sculptures. The roof retains the traditional Hainanese style of soaring eaves and ridges while organically blending Western relief patterns of squares, circles, and arcs. Despite the erosion of time, the walls remain stained and worn, yet the residence exudes a rich sense of history. Stand in the quiet of the residence and listen carefully as the Cai Family Residence recounts its past.
