It encompasses the vast Gobi Desert, the towering Kunlun Mountain ridge, and the Qilian Mountains to the north, separating it from the Qaidam Basin. The valley is essentially a vast expanse of Yardang landforms. Rising 3,000 to 4,000 meters above sea level, Devil Valley stretches 100 kilometers long and is approximately 30 kilometers wide, stretching from the sand dunes of Ruoqiang in the west to the Buluntai in Qinghai Province in the east. Frequent and bizarre lightning and thunder, accompanied by the deaths of large numbers of livestock, have earned it the nickname "Devil Valley" by locals.
