The Hongjiannao Scenic Area is located in Shenmu City, Shaanxi Province. The Hongjiannao Wetland is the world's largest breeding and habitat for the rare and endangered bird, the Relict Gull. From April to August every year, more than 20,000 Relict Gulls, accounting for 90% of the world's total, reproduce and live here on a spectacular scale.
This vast expanse of water boasts a beautiful natural ecology and an elegant environment. It is home to 53 nationally protected species of rare birds, including white swans, cormorants, egrets, golden eagles, ospreys, and mandarin ducks. Hongjian Nao also boasts a rich fishery, with 17 species of wild freshwater fish, including carp, grass carp, crucian carp, and silver carp. These fish are a pure, pollution-free, and delicious treat. Fish from the lake, stewed in local water, is known as "Shenhu Boiled Fish," renowned for its unique tenderness and flavor.
