Hongshi Gorge, located 3 kilometers north of Yulin City and only 5 kilometers from downtown, is one of the renowned "Eight Scenic Spots of Yulin." Formed by red rock cliffs, it is a rare example of Danxia landform canyon landscape in northern China. Its crimson cliffs give it the nickname "Hongshi Gorge." Within the gorge lie the "White Dragon Pond," "Yellow Dragon Pond," "Green Dragon Pond," "Black Dragon Pond," "Crouching Dragon Pond," "Sleeping Dragon Pond," "Awakening Dragon Pond," "Child Dragon Pond," and "Youlong Pond," forming the "Nine Dragon Streams."
The canyon is also a geological museum, where you can see rocks from various geological ages, from 400 million-year-old limestone to 1 billion-year-old quartzite. At the southern end of the canyon entrance lies a narrow gorge called "One Line Sky," home to the spectacular Bailong Waterfall, which rises over 50 meters. Flanked by towering mountains, it resembles a magnificent stone tower. On a clear day, witness the "Red Mountain Sunset": the dazzling scenery of Red Rock Gorge, reminiscent of a sunset glow, is captured by the setting sun.
