Introducing Tianyi Pavilion

Tianyi Pavilion is located in the urban area of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. It is the earliest existing private library in China, the oldest existing library in Asia, and one of the three earliest family libraries in the world.

It was built in the mid-Ming Dynasty under the supervision of Fan Qin, the then retired Right Vice Minister of the Ministry of War. As you enter the gate, the first thing you see is a bronze statue of the owner. Inside this small courtyard lies a hidden gem, with many exhibition halls showcasing the books collected by the Fan family throughout their travels.

Most noteworthy is the stage in the center of the courtyard, with its coop-like roof and gilded gilt, creating a truly magnificent scene. It incorporates a variety of traditional folk crafts, including woodcarving, brick carving, stone carving, gilding, and copying, boasting a rich variety of themes and elegant forms, representing a culmination of Ningbo's residential architecture. The vermilion and gold woodcarvings are particularly striking, and the stage itself is a prime example of architectural style.

There is also an interesting Mahjong Museum in Tianyi Pavilion, which has become a popular choice for many people to take photos.
