There are two Tianchi Lakes in Arxan. One is called Arxan Tianchi, which is closer to the tourist center. The other is Tuofengling Tianchi, which is 40 kilometers away from the tourist center. From the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain where you can see the Tianchi Lake, the vertical height is about 400 meters. Although it is not often visited by tourists, the scenery is very beautiful.
Tuofengling Tianchi Lake was formed by water accumulating in the crater following a volcanic eruption. Standing at 1,284 meters above sea level, it's shaped like a "left foot," approximately 450 meters wide from east to west and 800 meters long from north to south. It's thought to have formed 300,000 years ago. While a bit remote, it's about 37 kilometers from the main entrance of the forest park, but definitely worth the drive. Standing by the lake, with its gentle breeze and shimmering reflections, you'll feel as if you're far away from the human world, merging with nature and experiencing a sense of tranquility.
The lake is a perfect place to visit in all four seasons, offering unique views. Spring, summer, and autumn are the best seasons for a visit. At the turn of spring and summer, the shores are lush with trees, the mountains are filled with stagnant water vapor, and the mountaintops are shrouded in mist. When the azaleas bloom, the lake resembles a vast, shimmering sapphire embedded in a sea of flowers, creating a unique natural landscape. In autumn, the birch leaves turn from green to yellow, and the golden leaves and snow-white trunks are reflected in the azure waters, creating a breathtaking sight.
