Mudu Town is located in southeastern Jiangsu Province. Mudu Ancient Town, the only garden-themed ancient town in Jiangnan, is surrounded by famous mountains, crisscrossed by rivers and stone bridges, allowing for both water and land transportation. Ancient temples and gardens are built within it, creating a tranquil and elegant atmosphere.
Mudu, an ancient water town of the same age as Suzhou, boasts a history of over 2,500 years. Legend has it that in the late Spring and Autumn Period, King Fuchai of Wu, to please the beautiful Xi Shi, built the Guanwa Palace on the top of Lingyan Mountain and added the Gusu Terrace. "It took three years to gather materials, and five years to complete." The endless supply of timber actually blocked the rivers and canals below the mountain, giving Mudu its name: "Mud piles up, blocking the canals."
The ancient town has beautiful scenery and rich products. It is surrounded by famous Wuzhong mountains such as Tianping, Lingyan, Shishan and Qizi, so it is known as the "treasure pot" and "garden town". During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there were more than 20 private gardens in the town. There are still many classical gardens such as Yan's Garden, Bangyan Mansion, Hongyin Mountain House, and Gusong Garden.
Mudu Ancient Town has a subtropical monsoon humid climate with mild winters and little rain, hot summers and heavy rain. It has four distinct seasons and a pleasant climate.
