Established as a county in the first year of the Yongtai reign of the Tang Dynasty (765 AD), it boasts a history of over 1,200 years. It was established as a city in 1996. The city covers an area of ​​2,480 square kilometers and has a population of 600,400 (mostly Han Chinese from the Jiangyou ethnic group). It comprises 18 townships, three sub-district offices, and seven forestry (reclamation and horticultural) farms. During the Second Civil War, Guixi was a crucial component of the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi Revolutionary Base Area. Zhu De, Wang Jiaxiang, Fang Zhimin, and others all left their mark on the battlefields there. Guixi is also home to 5,540 martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives for the Chinese revolution.
