Treasure Island is located in the Yongle Islands of China's Xisha Islands, at the western end of Yongle Atoll, approximately 7 nautical miles from Ganquan Island. The island is surrounded by sandbars and exposed reefs. The island is high around the edges and low in the middle, where the central area was once a dry lagoon. Several wells provide muddy, but drinkable, water. A dredged channel has been constructed to the south of the island, allowing small boats to pass through.
The island is densely wooded, with widespread Pittosporum tobira forests, intermittent Maple-Tung forests, and extensive coastal Tung forests growing on hard phosphate-calcareous soils. The north coast also has rocky vegetation with Water Daphne spicata. Birds are plentiful, and guano resources are plentiful.
The best time to visit the Xisha Islands is from November to May each year , when the sea is calm and the weather is pleasant. The Xisha Islands have a tropical marine climate with long summers and no winter, and the average annual temperature is 26.5 degrees Celsius.
