The Lingquan Scenic Area, centered around Lingquan Temple, is renowned for its secluded mountains, beautiful temples, sweet springs, and unique cypresses. Known as the Lingquan Scenic Spot, it is one of Suining's Twelve Scenic Spots. Facing Guangde Temple across the Fu River, Lingquan Temple is one of China's renowned Buddhist sanctuaries.
Lingquan Temple is nestled against a mountainside, shaded by ancient pines and cypresses. At the summit of Lingshan Mountain lies a wondrous spring, emerald green and sweet, which never overflows or dries up year-round. It is known as the "Lingquan Spring." According to legend, Su Dongpo inscribed a poem on the stone wall, "Seven Springs." During the Sui, Tang, Song, and Ming dynasties, Lingquan Temple flourished, attracting pilgrims from across southwestern provinces. The temple earned the reputation of "Lingshan Holy Water," "Lingquan Holy Land," and "Western Holy Land."
The scenic area is named "Lingquan" because "there is a spring at the top, its water is dark blue and sweet, and it never overflows or dries up." This spring is now located beneath the lotus seat of Guanyin in the Guanyin Hall. The forest coverage rate in the scenic area reaches 93.3 %, and there are nearly 10,000 rare red bean trees and century-old cypress, nanmu, and banyan trees under national protection.
The three major Guanyin incense festivals on the 19th day of the second, sixth and ninth lunar months and the Spring Festival are the most lively.
