The Zhengguo Canal, located in the central Guanzhong Plain of Shaanxi Province, lies within the Jing River basin within the Beizhong Mountains. Construction began in 246 BC , laying the economic foundation for the Qin Dynasty's prosperity and unification of China during the Warring States Period. On November 8, 2016 , the Zhengguo Canal was successfully inscribed as a World Heritage Site for Irrigation Engineering . From then on, the world's greatest canal, the Zhengguo Canal, will forever be remembered in history.
The Zhengguo Canal Scenic Area is a comprehensive tourist attraction integrating history, culture, sightseeing, and leisure vacations. It is built around ancient water conservancy culture, Qin Dynasty culture, and the Jing River culture. Guided by the rich history of the Zhengguo Canal, anchored by the towering Zhongshan Mountain, and connected by the vast Jing River.
The five major areas of the scenic area, namely Jinghe Geopark Area, Jinghe Canyon Sightseeing Area, Heigou Qixia Area, Wenjing Lake Leisure Resort Area and Beizhongshan Reserve Tourist Area, tell visitors about the rich historical heritage and beautiful natural scenery of the scenic area.

The Zhengguo Canal was built in ancient China during the Qin Dynasty and is known for its impressive engineering. The Zhengguo Canal Scenic Area is located in Xianyang, Shaanxi, about 50 kilometers from Xi'an. You can take a taxi or a private car from Xi'an, or take a local bus. Public transport options are available, but the journey may take a bit longer compared to a direct taxi ride.
The scenic area is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The best times to visit are during the spring and autumn months when the weather is pleasant. Avoid visiting during summer afternoons as the area can get quite hot.
The entrance fee to the Zhengguo Canal Scenic Area is approximately 40 RMB. Tickets can be bought at the entrance. Online ticketing options may not be available, so it's best to purchase them on-site.
No advance booking is required for the entrance, but during peak seasons, it's advisable to arrive early to avoid long lines.

Guided tours in Mandarin are available at the entrance. Audio guides may also be available, but they are usually in Chinese. For non-Mandarin speakers, it’s recommended to hire a local guide or use a translation app for better understanding.
The best photography spots are along the canal, particularly where the water reflects the surrounding greenery. The waterworks and bridges also offer excellent views for photography, especially in the early morning or late afternoon light.
Start by walking along the canal’s main path, heading toward the waterworks. Take a break at one of the many scenic spots, and then explore the surrounding gardens and natural areas. If time permits, cycle along the canal for a broader perspective of the area.
Night visits are not available at this attraction, as it closes at 6:00 PM. There are no light shows or special night tours offered. However, the daytime scenery is beautiful, especially during the golden hour before sunset.
The area can get crowded on weekends and during public holidays. To avoid the crowds, visit on weekdays, preferably early in the morning. The least crowded times are usually on weekdays during the morning or late afternoon hours.
There are toilets and rest areas along the main walking routes. Basic food and drink stalls are available at the entrance, but for more substantial meals, it's better to head to nearby restaurants in Xianyang. There are no large shops, so bring your own water and snacks if needed.

There are small souvenir shops at the entrance selling items like postcards, handicrafts, and local snacks. For a broader selection, you can visit the shopping areas in Xianyang or Xi'an.
The best transportation options are taxis or private cars. Public buses can take you back to Xianyang or Xi'an, but taxis are more convenient and faster for continuing your journey.
