On the east bank of the Haihe River sits a small, German-style building with a steeply pitched red roof and a bell-shaped skylight. This building is the former residence of Yuan Shikai and the only remaining German-style building from the 16th to 18th centuries in Tianjin. Its interior structure retains many medieval elements, making it of great research value.
This building is a three-story building in the classical European style. It is the evolution of the medieval "Roman style" and incorporates the architectural techniques of the Germanic people. A bell-shaped skylight pavilion is built in the middle of the ridge of the red steep roof. It is modeled after the dome of the "Cathedral of Santa Maria" in early Italian Renaissance. The exterior has an additional reverse curve compared to Italian architecture, forming a unique German architectural style. There is also a back garden in the courtyard with rockery, corridors, fishing pavilions, flower cellars, etc.

"Hidden Place" and "Escape Place"
The hiding place is located in the right corner of the second floor, with a small door. Inside the door is a reinforced concrete staircase that leads to the roof and down to the basement. If the small door is closed, the stairs to the upper and lower floors are lost. The "escape point" is located next to the pavilion on the third floor, with an iron staircase leading directly to the back garden door, from which one can escape.
