Introducing Songyuan Primeval Forest Park

Songyuan Primeval Forest Park is located in District 16 of Mohe County. When the county was first established in 1971 , a primeval forest was preserved in the center of the county for visitors to enjoy and to purify the urban air. It was then converted into Songyuan Park in 1983 .

The park has two gates, east and west. The west gate is the main entrance, with the inscription " Songyuan " by Chen Lei, the former governor of Heilongjiang Province . There are colorful murals on both sides. The whole park is shaded by trees and flowers. There are forest paths and stone tables and wooden chairs in the park. It is one of the very few virgin forest parks in the city in the country.

During the fire on May 6 , 1987 , Songyuan Park miraculously escaped the blaze, much to everyone's amazement . Furthermore, since mosques, latrines, and cemeteries in Mohe were still untouched, people concluded: Songyuan didn't burn because it was auspicious, and the fire demon couldn't bear to see it; the mosque didn't burn because it was a place of honor, and the fire demon didn't dare to attack it; the latrines didn't burn because they were filthy, and the cemeteries didn't burn because the spirits of the same clan were not bothered by it. A marble tablet in the park, " Songyuan Record ," records this event.

Climate and best time to travel

The park boasts a total forest volume of 400 cubic meters, primarily composed of larch trees. The Xing'an Rhododendron, commonly known as Dazixiang, also known as Manshanhong and Shanhong, grows exclusively in high-latitude polar regions. It blooms each spring in May , transforming the park into a sea of blooms, its green trees and red flowers filling the air with fragrance, a breathtaking sight.
