Introducing Zhang Zhizhong's Former Residence

Zhang Zhizhong's former residence is located in Hongjiatuan Village, Huanglu Town, Chaohu City. It consists of the former residence and Guiweng Hall. It is situated on the Huanglu Normal University campus adjacent to Hongjiatuan Village. In 1989, it was designated a provincial-level cultural relic protection site. In 1995, it was designated a Chaohu City Patriotic Education Base.

From the back gate of Huanglu Normal University, descend the steps and cross Qingshui Pond to reach General Zhang's former residence. This residence is the most authentic of the former residences of the "Three Generals of Chaohu Lake." Facing west and east, with its back to the mountains and its front to the water, Zhang Zhizhong's former residence features a brick and wood structure with a small tiled roof. A granite plaque inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu reads, "Zhang Zhizhong's Former Residence," near the main entrance.

The cement floor of the lobby of Zhang Zhizhong's former residence is terrazzo. A faint pattern can be seen in the center: five bats holding a variant of the Chinese character "longevity," surrounded by auspicious clouds. "This is called 'Five Blessings (Bats) Holding Longevity,' symbolizing 'good fortune, longevity, and good fortune.' It incorporates Chinese elements and utilizes German technology." The living room displays photographs depicting General Zhang Zhizhong's life, each telling a story. The bedroom to the left of the lobby is furnished as it would have been, recreating the general's life there. In the courtyard of the former residence, a catalpa tree, planted by the general himself, boasts lush branches and leaves so thick that two people can hug it.
