We are stopping in Atlanta for one night on our way driving down to Florida. The only purpose for stopping in Atlanta is for dinner and a visit with my niece. She lives off I-85 between Bucktown and I-285.
She says Buckhead would be convenient for her as far as getting together with us. In doing a forum search I don't see many positive posts about Bucktown. But of curse those responses are to people who are staying and touring Atlanta.
Also, we try to stick with Marriott branded hotels and many of them get pretty lousy reviews, which is surprising to me. Right now we are zeroing in on Towne Place Suites Buckhead.
Any thoughts?
By the way we will be staying on a Friday night and heading south on I-75 in the morning (Saturday).
For a one-night stop in Atlanta primarily to meet your niece and have dinner, Buckhead is a very reasonable choice. It is convenient to I-85 and provides a more polished, safe, and walkable area compared to neighborhoods like Bucktown, which are more residential and not geared toward short-stay visitors. Buckhead also has a wide range of dining options, so meeting your niece for dinner should be easy and enjoyable.
Regarding Marriott-branded hotels, it’s true that some can be hit-or-miss depending on location and property age. TownePlace Suites Buckhead is a solid option for a short stay, particularly if you value:

Overall, for a Friday night stop with the sole purpose of dinner and visiting family, TownePlace Suites Buckhead is practical, safe, and convenient. You’ll have minimal driving through city traffic and can be on your way south efficiently the next morning. Buckhead itself is well-suited for dining out and short stays, so you don’t need to worry about safety or limited options for this type of quick visit.
