Hotel between airport and Stone Mountain
Hello! We are arriving late night into Hartsfield-Jackson (midnight) getting a rental car and the next day seeing Stone Mountain and Atlanta History Museum on our way to Chattanooga. I don’t want to stay on airport property because I don’t want a fee for parking for what will be long enough to shower and a few hours sleep. Can anyone recommend an hotel near Stone Mountain or on the way? I looked at some in Stone Mountain on Trop advisor but none had great reviews.
For your situation—arriving late at Hartsfield-Jackson, needing a short overnight stay, and then heading toward Stone Mountain and the Atlanta History Museum en route to Chattanooga—it makes sense to look for hotels roughly halfway between the airport and Stone Mountain or slightly east of Atlanta for convenience.
Considerations:
- Since you’re arriving around midnight and just need a few hours of sleep, focus on hotels that offer 24-hour check-in or late-night front desk service.
- Avoid airport hotels if you want to skip parking fees for a short stay.
- Choose hotels that are safe, clean, and reasonably priced, ideally with easy access to I-285 or Memorial Drive for Stone Mountain and downtown Atlanta visits.
Hotel Options Near Stone Mountain/En Route:
- Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Stone Mountain, GA: Offers clean, basic accommodations with breakfast included and free parking. It’s a short drive to Stone Mountain Park.
- Holiday Inn Express Atlanta – Stone Mountain: Modern hotel with free parking and shuttle service nearby, convenient for early morning departures to the park.
- Comfort Inn & Suites Stone Mountain: Another reliable mid-range option with good reviews for cleanliness, free parking, and breakfast.
- La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Atlanta Stone Mountain: Well-rated for short stays, offers free parking, and is conveniently located near I-285 for travel toward Chattanooga.
Alternative Option Slightly Closer to Airport:
- If you want to be even closer to ATL to reduce late-night driving, consider hotels along I-20 East toward Decatur or Tucker. These include mid-priced chains with free parking and 24-hour check-in, such as Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta NE/Stone Mountain or Fairfield Inn & Suites Atlanta Stone Mountain.
Plan your route the next morning to visit Stone Mountain first, then continue to the Atlanta History Museum (near downtown). Staying just east of Atlanta gives you a balance between minimizing night driving after a late arrival and convenient access to your morning sightseeing before hitting the road to Chattanooga.
