What to do on a Monday after the Aquarium?

Hi,

We will be going to the Aquarium next week, thinking of going to the Atlanta Breakfast Club for breakfast first. Our flight out is til 9pm, plan to get to airport and return rental car around 7pm.

I wanted to go to the Civil Rights Museum but it’s closed Mondays as are the botanical gardens. Not interested in going to World of Coke, have done MLK before and Swan House.

Any ideas ? 2 adults, 30s, like culture, sightseeing, breweries. Will have been to Jimmy Carter, the zoo, Ponte City Market, Truist Park.

Many thanks

It sounds like you already have a great trip planned with visits to several popular spots in Atlanta! Since you’re looking for things to do on a Monday after the aquarium and considering the places you’ve already been or are closed, here are some additional suggestions based on your interests in culture, sightseeing, and breweries:

1. Piedmont Park – If the weather is nice, Piedmont Park is a great place to walk around, relax, and enjoy some green space right in the heart of Atlanta. You can also check out the Atlanta Botanical Garden (though it’s closed on Mondays) from the outside or simply enjoy the park’s lovely scenery and skyline views.

2. Atlanta History Center – While you’ve already been to the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library, the Atlanta History Center offers a deep dive into the city’s past. It has a fantastic collection of exhibitions, including Civil War history, Southern history, and the Swan House, which you’ve already explored, but there’s more to discover here.

3. Krog Street Market & Inman Park – If you haven’t already visited, this is a great spot to explore some local shops, grab a bite, or check out some craft beer at one of the breweries nearby. Krog Street Market is full of unique food vendors, and Inman Park is a charming neighborhood for a casual stroll with beautiful Victorian homes.

4. Atlanta BeltLine – The BeltLine is one of Atlanta’s most dynamic attractions and is perfect for a relaxed afternoon of sightseeing. It’s an ongoing revitalization project, and you can walk, rent bikes, or even hop on a trolley. There are plenty of murals, art installations, and food trucks along the way, making it a great place to explore.

5. Ponce City Market – If you haven't already spent time at Ponce City Market, it’s a lively spot with a mix of local shops, restaurants, and entertainment. If you like craft beer, head to the rooftop bar, or you could check out Skyline Park for some fun, light-hearted activities like mini-golf and arcade games while taking in views of the city.

6. Brewery Tour – Since you’re into breweries, consider checking out some of Atlanta’s craft beer scene. There are several breweries near downtown and in the surrounding neighborhoods. Some of the top ones to check out are:

  • Monday Night Brewing – Located near the West End, it has a cozy taproom and a great selection of beers.
  • SweetWater Brewing Company – Known for its wide variety of beers, SweetWater offers tours and a lively tasting room.
  • Fire Maker Brewing – Located near Piedmont Park, this brewery has a great atmosphere and a solid beer selection.
  • Orpheus Brewing – Located on the BeltLine, Orpheus offers some unique brews and a great space to relax.

7. Explore Little Five Points – If you enjoy eclectic neighborhoods, head to Little Five Points. It’s Atlanta’s alternative, bohemian district with quirky shops, street art, and local cafes. This area has a cool, laid-back vibe, and you can explore the indie stores or grab a coffee at one of the local cafes.

8. Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) – If you're still in the mood for culture, the Museum of Design offers contemporary design exhibitions, and it’s located in a unique building near the Midtown area. It’s not as crowded as other museums, so it’s a good place to explore some creative exhibits.

9. West End & Lee + White District – This up-and-coming area is home to a variety of distilleries, breweries, and cool spots. You can take a tour at ASW Distillery, sample some spirits, or explore the Monday Night Garage brewery. It’s a unique area that you might enjoy for an afternoon of casual exploration and tasting.

Since you have until 7 PM before heading to the airport, any of these options would give you a nice mix of sightseeing, culture, and relaxation without feeling rushed. Enjoy your time in Atlanta!
