Busses from STL airport south to Farmington/Perryville?
Hello, I am flying into STL in a few days and am trying to reach Farmington. I can't seem to find any transit that runs south from St. Louis in that direction. Are there any bus lines that could take me south down the 55 or on another route to get me closer? Would really really appreciate any suggestions!!!!
If you’re flying into St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) and need to travel south to Farmington or Perryville, you’re correct that public transit options are very limited. The St. Louis MetroLink and MetroBus systems primarily serve the city and nearby suburbs, but do not extend far south along I-55.
Here are some options to consider:
- Greyhound or other intercity buses: Greyhound does operate from St. Louis, but their routes mainly serve major cities and may not stop directly in Farmington or Perryville. You may need to connect via Cape Girardeau or another hub, which could involve multiple transfers and take a long time.
- Shuttle services: Some private shuttle or airport transfer companies operate in the St. Louis area and may provide rides to Farmington or Perryville. You would need to book these in advance, and they can be pricey, but they are reliable if you have no other options.
- Rental car: This is by far the most practical option. STL has numerous rental agencies on-site, and the drive to Farmington is about 90 minutes south on I-55. Renting a car gives you flexibility and avoids the complications of multiple bus connections.
- Rideshare services: Uber or Lyft can technically take you to Farmington, but this would be extremely expensive for the roughly 90–100 mile trip. It could be feasible if you are splitting the cost with others, but generally not recommended.
Additional considerations:
- Farmington and Perryville are small towns, and public transit options in southeastern Missouri are extremely limited. Even regional bus services like KTCS (Katy Trail/ Southeast Missouri) may not run regularly or connect to STL directly.
- If your schedule is tight, plan for a rental car pickup at STL. This is the fastest and most reliable way to get south without dealing with complicated connections or very long waits.
- If you are committed to public transit, you could check Greyhound or Jefferson Lines schedules to see if a connection to Cape Girardeau or Sikeston is possible, and then a local taxi or rideshare from there to Farmington or Perryville. Expect this to take multiple hours and be less convenient than driving.
In short, while buses exist for some parts of Missouri, direct service from St. Louis Airport to Farmington or Perryville is extremely limited or non-existent. Renting a car is the most practical and time-efficient solution for this trip.
