Savannah weekend

My husband and have a planned weekend to Savannah next month. We have reservations at the Old Harbour Inn. My husband has trouble walking distances. We want to stay in the historic district. Is there any parking at restaurants like The Olde Pink House and the Pirates House? Or should we Uber?

It sounds like you’re planning a lovely weekend in Savannah! The Old Harbour Inn is in a great spot in the Historic District, so you’re already in a very walkable area with plenty of nearby attractions, including restaurants like The Olde Pink House and The Pirates' House. Here’s some information to help you plan your weekend considering your husband’s difficulty with walking distances:

Parking at The Olde Pink House and The Pirates' House:

  • The Olde Pink House: This iconic restaurant is located in a very busy part of the Historic District, where parking can be limited. While there isn’t dedicated parking at The Olde Pink House itself, there is metered street parking nearby, but spaces can be hard to find, especially during peak hours. Alternatively, you may be able to find parking at nearby public lots or garages. There is also valet parking available at some times, so you could check with them about availability when you plan to dine there.
  • The Pirates' House: Similar to The Olde Pink House, parking at The Pirates' House can be a bit tricky. While they do have a small lot for customers, it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. There is metered street parking around the area, and you might be able to find some spots nearby. However, depending on the time of day, parking can be limited. Valet parking might also be an option if available.

Should You Uber?

  • Uber or Lyft: Given your husband’s difficulty with walking long distances, using Uber or Lyft could be a more convenient option to get to these restaurants. The short distances between places in the Historic District mean that rideshare services won’t be too expensive, and it will save you from the hassle of parking altogether. Additionally, it’s a good way to avoid the stress of driving and finding parking in busy areas.
  • Walking with Assistance: If you’re both comfortable with walking short distances, the Historic District is quite compact and walkable. The Old Harbour Inn is ideally situated close to several popular attractions, and many of the major restaurants and sights are within walking distance of each other. You can always use a wheelchair or scooter for easier mobility, especially if your husband has trouble walking longer distances.

Other Options for Easy Transportation:

  • Shuttle Services: Some hotels, including The Old Harbour Inn, might offer shuttle services within the Historic District. You can inquire with the hotel directly to see if they offer a shuttle to and from restaurants or other destinations within the area.
  • Historic District Trolley Tour: Another option is the hop-on-hop-off trolley tours that operate throughout the Historic District. These trolleys are a great way to get around if you’re not up for walking long distances. They stop at major attractions and run frequently, which can help you avoid the need to drive or park.

In conclusion, while there is some parking available at both The Olde Pink House and The Pirates' House, it can be limited and might require some walking. If you’re concerned about parking and walking distances, using Uber or Lyft would be a good alternative, especially if you want to avoid the stress of finding a spot in the busy Historic District. Additionally, check with your hotel for any shuttle options, or consider using the trolley service if you want an easy way to get around without worrying about parking.

Enjoy your time in Savannah, and I hope you have a wonderful 50th birthday celebration!
