November 4-8
Is there much to do in Ocean City the first week of November? We're visiting with 2 teenage boys (13 & 18). Will they be terribly bored?
Visiting Ocean City, Maryland during the first week of November is quite different from the busy summer months. Many of the seasonal attractions, such as amusement parks, boardwalk arcades, and waterparks, are closed by early November. The town is much quieter, which can be a plus if you’re looking for a low-key visit, but it does limit entertainment options for teenagers.
That said, there are still several activities and experiences that your teenage boys might enjoy, particularly if they like outdoor activities, sports, or exploring the area.
- Beach and Boardwalk Walks: While swimming might be too cold, the beaches are still nice for walks, beachcombing, or even a casual game of frisbee or football. The boardwalk is open year-round, and you can enjoy shops, snacks, and a quieter atmosphere without the summer crowds.
- Assateague Island: A short drive from Ocean City, this national seashore offers hiking, wildlife viewing, and the famous wild ponies. Teens can enjoy exploring nature, spotting animals, and walking or biking on trails.
- Mini-Golf and Outdoor Sports: Some mini-golf courses and outdoor activity spots remain open in November. Check ahead for seasonal hours, but courses along Coastal Highway may still be available.
- Indoor Activities: Consider bowling alleys, movie theaters, or escape rooms in Ocean City or nearby towns for teen-friendly indoor fun.
- Fishing and Boating: Some charters still operate in November, offering deep-sea or bay fishing trips. Even a short charter can be exciting for teens interested in boating or fishing.
Additional tips:
- Check local calendars — some fall festivals or local events may still be running in early November.
- Restaurants and cafes remain open year-round, so there are options for grabbing casual meals or snacks while exploring the area.
- If your teens enjoy sports or video games, bringing some entertainment from home might be helpful, as nightlife options are very limited outside the summer season.
In summary, Ocean City in early November is much quieter and many of the classic summer attractions are closed, which means teens may have fewer activities available than during peak season. However, outdoor activities like beach walks, Assateague Island trips, fishing, and some indoor entertainment options can still make the visit enjoyable if you plan ahead and focus on the experiences that are open year-round.
